Brewers Breakthrough in Eighth, End Losing Streak

Yahoo Sports

A very strange eighth inning proved pivotal as Milwaukee Brewers edged Toronto Blue Jays 2-1.

Sometimes, the baseball gods smile on teams in need. The Milwaukee Brewers definitely might have felt that way on Wednesday night as they beat the Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 at American Family Field. In an eighth inning that might be replayed for a little bit, the Brewers got some luck on their side and that six-game losing streak is now a thing of the past.

Let's break it down a bit. With the Blue Jays holding a 1-0 lead, Milwaukee's David Hamilton had an infield single that Toronto relief pitcher Tyler Rogers could not get to in time. Sal Frelick came up and chopped the ball into the ground.

As it bounded up into the air, Toronto catcher Brandon Valenzuela was waiting to see if the ball might roll foul. It turned out that the ball just hit the ground and stopped. Frelick reached first base and all Valenzuela could do is bend down and pick up the ball.

William Contreras came up and slithered a single to right that tied the game at 1-1. Then, Brice Turang hit a chopper that went over Rogers' head. Frelick scored and that gave the Brewers a 2-1 lead.
